OUR MISSION
We believe this body of Christ was given a mission
In Luke 19:10 we learn that Jesus “came to seek and to save what was lost.” We are to align our lives with Jesus, who spoke and lived a simple truth, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners. (Mark 2:17)”
OUR ROOTS
Church History
1874
In 1874 Rev. Samuel H. Reisner, a Fulton Circuit Rider, organized a class known as the Quarryville Society with John Stanton as the leader. The Society first met in homes, but as they grew, they began meeting at the Grand Army of the Republic Hall on South Lime Street. On Sunday, July 17, 1883, Quarryville Methodist Church dedicated its first church building on East State Street. The church then became part of a three point charge with Wesley and Mount Hope Methodist Churches until 1917.
1919
In 1919, Quarryville Methodist Church became Quarryville Memorial Church as a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in World War I. On May 16, 1920, ground was broken for a new church building at Second and Hess Streets. The building was dedicated on November 8, 1921, as all attending marched from the old church building on East State Street, to the new building on Hess Street.
1968
The church name changed again in 1968 with the merger of the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren Churches, to Memorial United Methodist Church.
1990
The church continued to grow and change with the Quarryville community and in 1989, ground was broken for a new educational wing. The new educational wing was dedicated on June 3, 1990. The church continues to be an active part of the Quarryville community, seeking to make, sustain, and equip disciples of Jesus Christ for Christian service.
2016
An elevator was created for easy access from the parking lot into Memorial United Methodist Church. Accomodating members and visitors of all ages allows our community to visit and worship.
